Cards and rarities

FireRed & LeafGreen has 116 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "4/112". The cards print a set symbol, not a set code; the code here is the short one the catalog and TurnZero HQ file the set under.

The printed total is 112, so Charmander and the three bird Pokémon-ex, 113 to 116, are secret rares. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. What a complete set costs

One copy of every card in FireRed & LeafGreen, bought as singles, cost $5,390.24 on October 22, 2026. That is the 8th most expensive of the sixteen sets in the EX series.

Complete set $5,390.24
Main set, 1 to 112 $4,584.38
4 secret rares $805.86
Top three cards $2,550.44 (47%)

The three most valuable cards, Gengar ex, Blastoise ex and Charizard ex, come to $2,550.44, or 47% of the total. Without them the set costs $2,839.80. Of the 114 cards, 43 were under $2.00, together $40.09; the other 71 add up to $5,350.15.

Two cards had no TCGplayer price on file and aren't counted: Drowzee and PokéDex HANDY909.

Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, usually a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil, or a stamped promo copy where the catalog prices one lower, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.

Playing it

FireRed & LeafGreen is not legal in Standard or Expanded as a set: Expanded starts with the Black & White series in 2011. The catalog marks eight of its 116 cards as legal anyway, five of them in Standard too.

They are Energy Switch, Great Ball, Poké Ball, Potion and Switch, legal in both formats; and Bill's Maintenance, Super Scoop Up and VS Seeker, legal in Expanded only.

Each shares its name and text with a later, legal printing, which is what makes an older copy playable. Every other card in the set is legal in neither format.
