Fabled Amber & Sapphire: Upgrade Guide

Ariel and Mulan lead a Princess deck that shrinks attackers, heals its characters and finds more Princesses as it quests.

Three cards from the Disney Lorcana Amber & Sapphire starter deck fanned out: Ariel - Singing Mermaid in front, with Mulan - Considerate Diplomat and Aurora - Holding Court behind.

How it plays out of the box

Play Princesses cheaply, let them soak challenges, heal them, and quest. Mulan keeps finding more Princesses, and Grand Pabbie turns the healing into lore.

It's resilient but slow, and it lacks a clear way to close a game. Its cards are mostly reprints, which makes it a cheap way into a Core-legal deck.

The rating: power 2, difficulty 3

Power
Difficulty

Durable but slow, with no clear finish, though everything in it is Core-legal.

Both numbers are TurnZero HQ's own editorial read, not an official Ravensburger rating. Power compares the deck out of the box against the other starter decks, not against a tuned tournament list. Difficulty is how much the deck asks of the person playing it.

What to cut first

Cut the non-Princess characters that don't heal, and any healing effect that costs a card without drawing one back.

A Lorcana deck needs at least 60 cards, no more than 4 copies of a card with the same full name, and at most two inks, so every card you add means one you take out. The deck building rules →

Upgrade direction 1: Heal for lore and ink

Grand Pabbie is the payoff the deck already has. Add more ways to remove damage and a second payoff that ramps your inkwell.

Upgrade direction 2: A real finish

Give the deck a way to close: removal for the opposing threat and card draw so it doesn't run out of Princesses.

Core or Infinity

As of October 2026, this deck is legal in Core Constructed, which uses sets 9 (Fabled) onward. It is also legal in Infinity Constructed, which allows every set. Core rotates once a year, so check a card's page before you buy into a list.

Every upgrade pick on this page is from set 9 or later, so all of them are Core-legal. Core Constructed vs. Infinity →

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Fabled Princess starter deck Core-legal?

Yes, as of October 2026. Fabled is the oldest set in Core Constructed, so every card in the box is legal until Fabled rotates.

Which Fabled starter deck is better?

We rate Emerald and Ruby higher. The Princess deck is sturdier but has trouble closing out games.
