How it plays out of the box

Nearly every turn includes a song. Tiana shrinks the opposing board each time, Alma readies the singers so they can still quest, and Bruno turns one song into a handful of cards.

It plays smoothly and has the most card draw of any starter. You'll need to watch which characters sing and which quest, which is why it rates a 3 for difficulty.

The rating: power 3, difficulty 3

Power
Difficulty

Smooth and full of card draw, but light on ways to remove a big threat.

Both numbers are TurnZero HQ's own editorial read, not an official Ravensburger rating. Power compares the deck out of the box against the other starter decks, not against a tuned tournament list. Difficulty is how much the deck asks of the person playing it.

What to cut first

Cut characters that can't sing your songs for free and songs that don't affect the board or your hand.

A Lorcana deck needs at least 60 cards, no more than 4 copies of a card with the same full name, and at most two inks, so every card you add means one you take out. The deck building rules →

Upgrade direction 1: Better songs

Later Amber and Amethyst songs draw more and cost less, and Ursula - Voice Stealer plays one for free.

Upgrade direction 2: Answers for big threats

The deck's songs shrink characters but rarely remove them. Add a couple of real answers.

Core or Infinity

As of October 2026, this deck is not legal in Core Constructed as sold, because Core uses sets 9 (Fabled) onward. A card counts as Core-legal when any printing with its full name is, so the cards from this box that were reprinted in Fabled or later can still be played there. The whole deck is legal in Infinity Constructed, which allows every set, and at any kitchen table.

Every upgrade pick on this page is from set 9 or later, so all of them are Core-legal. Core Constructed vs. Infinity →

Frequently Asked Questions

How does singing a song work?

Exert a character whose cost is at least the song's cost, and you play the song for free. Singer characters count as a higher cost for this.

Is Reign of Jafar's Amber and Amethyst deck better than the First Chapter one?

Yes, we rate it higher. It has a clearer plan, more card draw and better singers.
