Pokémon TCG · 2017 Set Guide
The second Sun & Moon set, with the Island Guardians: Tapu Lele-GX, Tapu Koko-GX and more. The rainbow Sylveon-GX leads its value, more than double the next card.
Guardians Rising is the second Sun & Moon expansion: 145 cards up to the printed total and 24 secret rares above it (146 to 169), fifteen Rainbow Rares and nine Rare Secret cards.
Its Pokémon-GX include the Island Guardians Tapu Lele-GX and Tapu Koko-GX, Alolan Ninetales-GX and Metagross-GX. Tapu Lele-GX's Wonder Tag finds a Supporter when it comes onto your Bench, and Field Blower, Rescue Stretcher and Choice Band are among its Trainers.
Guardians Rising has 169 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "1/145", next to the set code GRI.
The printed total is 145, so the 24 cards from 146 to 169 are secret rares: fifteen Rainbow Rares and nine Rare Secret cards. The catalog also files eleven more cards under this set with a letter after the number: Alolan Sandshrew (19a), Alolan Vulpix (21a), Garbodor (51a), Tapu Lele-GX (60a), Sylveon-GX (92a), Choice Band (121a), Enhanced Hammer (124a), Field Blower (125a), Max Potion (128a), Rescue Stretcher (130a) and Metagross-GX (157a). Each is an alternate printing outside the numbered set, so they aren't counted here. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. Pokémon-GX give up two Prize cards when Knocked Out, and each has a GX attack; you can use only one GX attack in a game. Three of this set's:

These are each card's headline TCGplayer market price on October 22, 2026. Prices can move a long way, most of all in a set's first months, so treat them as a snapshot. Each card's page shows today's price for every variant and its 90-day chart. How Pokémon card prices work →
One copy of every card in Guardians Rising, bought as singles, cost $1,078.09 on October 22, 2026. That is the 12th most expensive of the sixteen sets in the Sun & Moon series.
The three most valuable cards, two Sylveon-GX cards and Alolan Ninetales-GX, come to $340.50, or 32% of the total. Without them the set costs $737.59. Of the 169 cards, 114 were under $2.00, together $40.67; the other 55 add up to $1,037.42.
Left out: eleven alternate printings the catalog files under this set with a letter after the number, Alolan Sandshrew (19a), Alolan Vulpix (21a), Garbodor (51a), Tapu Lele-GX (60a), Sylveon-GX (92a), Choice Band (121a), Enhanced Hammer (124a), Field Blower (125a), Max Potion (128a), Rescue Stretcher (130a) and Metagross-GX (157a). They aren't part of the numbered 169.
Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil where both exist, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.
No Guardians Rising card carries a regulation mark, so none is Standard-legal as printed, apart from its basic Energy cards, which Standard allows from any set. Standard has allowed only the H, I and J marks since April 10, 2026. Every card in Guardians Rising is legal in Expanded, which takes every set from Black & White on.
A reprint with a legal mark makes older printings of the same card legal again, so check a card's name before you rule it out.
