The Cards column gives the numbered cards and, after the plus, the cards above the printed total. The last column is what one copy of every card cost as singles, companion list included, each at its cheapest variant and TCGplayer market price, on the date beside it. It shows how much value a set packs in, not what opening it returns.

What Sun & Moon changed

Sun & Moon replaced Pokémon-EX with Pokémon-GX. A Pokémon-GX still gives up two Prize cards when Knocked Out, but many are Evolution Pokémon, and each has a GX attack: a stronger move you can use only once in a game, across all your GX attacks. The first set also introduced Rainbow Rares, rainbow-foil full arts numbered above the printed total.

Later sets added more. Crimson Invasion brought Ultra Beasts, Ultra Prism the Prism Star cards (one of each name per deck, sent to the Lost Zone instead of the discard pile), and Team Up the TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX, two or three Pokémon on one card, worth three Prize cards. Hidden Fates added a 94-card Shiny Vault, and Cosmic Eclipse closed the series as its largest set.

The set guides

Sun & Moon (February 3, 2017). The first Sun & Moon set, and the first with Pokémon-GX, each with a once-a-game GX attack. It also introduced Rainbow Rares, and the rainbow Umbreon-GX is its most valuable card.

Guardians Rising (May 5, 2017). The second Sun & Moon set, with the Island Guardians: Tapu Lele-GX, Tapu Koko-GX and more. The rainbow Sylveon-GX leads its value, more than double the next card.

Burning Shadows (August 5, 2017). The set of Charizard-GX, Gardevoir-GX and Darkrai-GX, and of Guzma, the Supporter that switches both Active Pokémon. Its rainbow Charizard-GX is worth more than the next ten cards together.

Shining Legends (October 6, 2017). A special set built on Shining Pokémon, shiny versions of legendary and mythical Pokémon, and a handful of Pokémon-GX. Its secret-rare Mewtwo-GX is worth four times the next card, Shining Mew.

Crimson Invasion (November 3, 2017). The set that brought Ultra Beasts into the game, with Nihilego-GX, Buzzwole-GX, Guzzlord-GX and Kartana-GX. The rainbow Gyarados-GX leads a set with low prices overall.

Ultra Prism (February 2, 2018). The set that introduced Prism Star cards, one of each name per deck, and its value is in its full-art Supporters: the full-art Lillie is its most valuable card, ahead of Cynthia and Lusamine.

Forbidden Light (May 4, 2018). A set of Pokémon-GX from Kalos and Ultra Beasts, with Greninja-GX, Ultra Necrozma-GX and the Prism Star Arceus. Its rainbow Lucario-GX and Greninja-GX are close together at the top.

Celestial Storm (August 3, 2018). A set of Hoenn Pokémon, with Rayquaza-GX, Blaziken-GX and the Prism Star Jirachi and Latios. The rainbow Rayquaza-GX leads its value, and the full-art Lisia is second.

Dragon Majesty (September 7, 2018). A special set built around Dragon-type Pokémon, with Dragonite-GX, Salamence-GX and the Supporters Zinnia and Lance Prism Star. A secret-rare Ultra Necrozma-GX is its most valuable card.

Lost Thunder (November 2, 2018). The largest Sun & Moon set to its release, with 236 cards, seven Prism Star cards and Pokémon from the Johto region. The rainbow Lugia-GX and Mimikyu-GX lead its value.

Team Up (February 1, 2019). The set that introduced TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX, worth three Prize cards each. Its alternate full-art Latias & Latios-GX alone costs more than most whole Sun & Moon sets.

Detective Pikachu (April 5, 2019). An 18-card special set released with the Detective Pikachu film. Its cards use images from the movie and have no Pokémon-GX, so prices are low; the Charizard is its most valuable card.

Unbroken Bonds (May 3, 2019). The second TAG TEAM set, with Reshiram & Charizard-GX, Pheromosa & Buzzwole-GX and Gardevoir & Sylveon-GX, and the Supporter Welder. Its alternate full-art Gardevoir & Sylveon-GX leads by a wide margin.

Unified Minds (August 2, 2019). The third TAG TEAM set, with Mewtwo & Mew-GX, Mega Sableye & Tyranitar-GX and Garchomp & Giratina-GX. Its top five cards are all within about $60 of each other.

Hidden Fates (August 23, 2019). A special set of Kanto Pokémon and Supporters, with a 94-card Shiny Vault beside it. The Shiny Vault holds nearly all of its value, led by the shiny Charizard-GX.

Cosmic Eclipse (November 1, 2019). The last Sun & Moon set and the biggest, with 271 cards: three-Pokémon TAG TEAMs, TAG TEAM Supporters and a long run of secret rares. The alternate full-art Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX leads it.

Sun & Moon in Standard and Expanded

No Sun & Moon card is Standard-legal as printed, apart from basic Energy: the series predates regulation marks, and Standard has allowed only H, I and J since April 10, 2026. Every Sun & Moon set is legal in Expanded, apart from the cards on the Expanded banned list, and more of those come from Sun & Moon than from any other series: Marshadow, Oranguru, Flabébé, the two Unown, Mismagius, Chip-Chip Ice Axe, Lt. Surge's Strategy, Jessie & James, Reset Stamp, Duskull and Island Challenge Amulet. Each guide names its own. Banned and legal Pokémon cards →
