Overview

Release date October 6, 2017
Set code SLG
Cards 73 numbered, 78 in total
Series Sun & Moon
Complete set as singles $1,584.18 on Oct 22
Regulation mark None, printed before regulation marks

Shining Legends came out between Burning Shadows and Crimson Invasion as a special set: 73 cards up to the printed total and five secret rares above it, four Rainbow Rares and Mewtwo-GX (74 to 78).

Its six Shining Pokémon, among them Shining Mew, Shining Rayquaza and Shining Arceus, are holofoil shiny versions of legendary and mythical Pokémon. The set's four Pokémon-GX are Entei-GX, Raichu-GX, Mewtwo-GX and Zoroark-GX, and Marshadow (45) is on the Expanded banned list.

Cards and rarities

Shining Legends has 78 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "1/73", next to the set code SLG.

Rare Shining6Shining Pokémon, shiny versions of legendary and mythical Pokémon.
Rare Ultra3Full-art cards.
Rare Rainbow4Rainbow-foil full arts, numbered above the printed total.
Rare Secret1Numbered above the printed total.

The printed total is 73, so the 5 cards from 74 to 78 are secret rares. The catalog also files three more cards under this set with a letter after the number: Entei-GX (10a), Ultra Ball (68a) and Zoroark-GX (77a). Each is an alternate printing outside the numbered set, so they aren't counted here. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. What a complete set costs

One copy of every card in Shining Legends, bought as singles, cost $1,584.18 on October 22, 2026. That is the 10th most expensive of the sixteen sets in the Sun & Moon series.

Complete set $1,584.18
Main set, 1 to 73 $552.67
5 secret rares $1,031.51
Top three cards $1,188.24 (75%)

The three most valuable cards, Mewtwo-GX, Shining Mew and Shining Rayquaza, come to $1,188.24, or 75% of the total. Without them the set costs $395.94. Of the 78 cards, 58 were under $2.00, together $20.06; the other 20 add up to $1,564.12.

Left out: three alternate printings the catalog files under this set with a letter after the number, Entei-GX (10a), Ultra Ball (68a) and Zoroark-GX (77a). They aren't part of the numbered 78.

Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil where both exist, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.

Playing it

No Shining Legends card carries a regulation mark, so none is Standard-legal as printed. Standard has allowed only the H, I and J marks since April 10, 2026. Shining Legends is legal in Expanded, which takes every set from Black & White on, except for Marshadow (45/73), on the Expanded banned list.

A reprint with a legal mark makes older printings of the same card legal again, so check a card's name before you rule it out.
