Pink Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards: Trap Cards

A pink Yu-Gi-Oh! card is a Trap Card. You Set it face down and spring it later, usually on your opponent's turn, which is what makes a face-down card the first thing an opponent wonders about. Every Trap is the same pink, sometimes called magenta or purple-pink.

Pink is the frame of a Trap Card. It starts in the Main Deck. Trap Cards: Set face down, then sprung from the next turn on. Normal, Continuous and Counter Traps are all pink.

2,059 cards released in the TCG are pink, as of November 2, 2026. See the full color chart →

What a Pink Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Is

Pink is the frame of a Trap Card. In the corner where a monster has its Attribute, a Trap says TRAP, and under the name it reads [Trap Card], with an icon after it if it is a Continuous or Counter Trap. Traps have no Level, ATK or DEF.

A few Traps turn into monsters when they resolve and say the card is also still a Trap. They keep their pink frame on the field, so a pink card in a Monster Zone is not a mistake.

How Trap Cards Play

You cannot activate a Trap from your hand unless the card says you can. Set it face down in a Spell & Trap Zone first, and you can activate it from the next turn on, on either player's turn, as long as its condition is met. Infinite Impermanence is one that says it can be activated from the hand, when you control no cards.

Normal Traps go to the Graveyard after they resolve; Continuous Traps stay and keep working. Counter Traps are Spell Speed 3, the fastest in the game, and only another Counter Trap can respond to one.

What to Know About Pink Cards

  • No icon: Normal Trap. The others are Continuous and Counter.
  • Normal and Continuous Traps are Spell Speed 2; Counter Traps are Spell Speed 3.
  • A Trap you Set this turn cannot be activated this turn.
  • Hand traps are orange monsters, not pink cards, despite the name.

  • Call of the Haunted: Special Summon a monster from your Graveyard in Attack Position. The two stay linked: if one leaves, the other is destroyed.

A pink card is a Trap Card. You Set it face down first and can activate it from the next turn on, usually in response to something your opponent does. Normal, Continuous and Counter Traps are all pink.
