White Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards: Synchro Monsters

A white Yu-Gi-Oh! card is a Synchro Monster. It starts in your Extra Deck, and you Summon it by sending a Tuner and one or more non-Tuner monsters from your field to the Graveyard, as long as their Levels add up exactly to its Level. White arrived with the 5D's era in 2008.

What a White Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Is

White, or silver-white, is the frame of a Synchro Monster. The first line of its text box is its Synchro Material, almost always "1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters", sometimes with a condition such as a Type, an Attribute or a named card.

A Tuner is a monster whose type line says Tuner. Most are orange Effect Monsters, but there are yellow Normal Tuners and white Synchro Tuners too, and the frame color does not change.

How Synchro Monsters Play

A Synchro Summon needs no Spell. During your Main Phase, send one Tuner and any number of non-Tuners you control to the Graveyard, with Levels adding up exactly to the Synchro Monster's Level, and Special Summon it from the Extra Deck. A Level 3 Tuner and a Level 5 non-Tuner make a Level 8, such as Stardust Dragon.

Because the Levels have to match exactly, Synchro decks run a spread of Levels and several Tuners. Xyz and Link Monsters have no Level, so neither can be Synchro Material.

What to Know About White Cards

  • White cards go in the Extra Deck, never the Main Deck.
  • The Levels must add up exactly: not more, not less.
  • A Synchro Monster can go into any of your Main Monster Zones under the current rules.
  • A white Pendulum (white over green) is a Synchro Pendulum Monster and also starts in the Extra Deck.

  • Stardust Dragon: Level 8, 1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuners. Tribute it to negate a card or effect that would destroy a card on the field, and it comes back in the End Phase.
  • Black Rose Dragon: Level 7. When it is Synchro Summoned, you can destroy all cards on the field.
  • Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign - Chengying: Level 10. It grows and shrinks your opponent's monsters for every banished card, and banishes cards from their field and Graveyard when cards are banished.
  • Baronne de Fleur: Level 10. Once per turn it destroys a card on the field, and once while face up it can negate an activation and destroy that card.

The Two-Tone Version: White and green

A Synchro Pendulum Monster is white on top and Spell green on the bottom: a Synchro Monster that can also be placed in a Pendulum Zone. It starts in the Extra Deck, the same as a plain white card.
