Yu-Gi-Oh! · Card Colors
A purple Yu-Gi-Oh! card is a Fusion Monster. It starts the duel in your Extra Deck, and you bring it out by combining the monsters its first line lists, usually with Polymerization or another Fusion Spell. Purple is the oldest of the Extra Deck colors and has been in the game since its first sets.

Purple, or violet, is the frame of a Fusion Monster. The first line of its text box is its Fusion Materials, the monsters you combine to make it. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon lists "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" three times; Starving Venom Fusion Dragon lists "2 DARK monsters on the field, except Tokens". Any effect comes after that line.
A Fusion Monster never goes in your Main Deck. It sits in the Extra Deck, up to 15 cards, which does not count toward your 40 card Main Deck.
The usual Fusion Summon is a Spell: Polymerization sends the listed Materials from your hand or field to the Graveyard and Special Summons the Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck. Many archetypes have their own Fusion Spell that can use Materials from the Deck or Graveyard instead.
Some Fusion Monsters skip the Spell. Elder Entity N'tss, for one, is Special Summoned by sending a Synchro Monster and an Xyz Monster you control to the Graveyard, and its text says you do not use Polymerization. Read the Summoning condition before you plan around a Fusion Spell.
Under the current rules, a Fusion Monster Special Summoned from the Extra Deck can go into any of your Main Monster Zones. Only Link Monsters, and Pendulum Monsters Summoned from the face-up Extra Deck, are tied to the Extra Monster Zone or a zone a Link Monster points to.
