Yu-Gi-Oh! · Card Colors
A yellow Yu-Gi-Oh! card is a Normal Monster. It has no effect: the text box holds a line of flavor text, and the card is its Level, Attribute, Type, ATK and DEF. Some of the most famous cards in the game are yellow, and many cards still go out of their way to support them.
Yellow is the frame of a Normal Monster. It starts in the Main Deck. Normal Monsters: no effect, just flavor text, ATK and DEF. Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magician are yellow.

Yellow, sometimes described as tan or gold, is the frame of a Normal Monster. Read the text box and you will find a description of the monster, usually in italics, rather than rules. Konami's rulebook says that text has no effect on the game, so a yellow card does exactly what its numbers say and nothing more.
The type line confirms it. A yellow card's type line ends in "Normal", as in [Dragon/Normal]. A few yellow cards are Normal Tuners, which still have no effect but can be used as the Tuner for a Synchro Summon.
Normal Monsters go in your Main Deck and come out the ordinary way. A monster of Level 4 or lower can be Normal Summoned with no Tribute, a Level 5 or 6 needs one Tribute and a Level 7 or higher needs two. You get one Normal Summon or Set a turn.
On their own, most Normal Monsters are outclassed by Effect Monsters of the same Level, and that is why yellow cards tend to have larger ATK and DEF than orange ones. Their value now comes from support: Spells, Traps and Effect Monsters that search, revive or power up Normal Monsters specifically, and archetypes built around one famous yellow card. A Blue-Eyes or Dark Magician deck plays its yellow namesake because a whole set of cards asks for it by name.
