Disney Lorcana Ink Pairs
Amethyst and Steel is one of the 15 two-ink combinations a Lorcana deck can be built in. This page covers how it plays, what it does well and badly, and the cards that show its plan, as of October 2026.
Amethyst & Steel is the purple-gray pair. Steel's damage removal and sturdy characters with Amethyst's Challenger, Rush and card draw: a board-control deck that wins challenges.
New to the inks? The ink colors guide covers each one, and all 15 pairs are listed side by side.
Amethyst and Steel both carry Challenger, which adds strength while a character challenges, and Steel adds Resist and damage actions. The pair tends to clear the opponent's questers with challenges and actions, then quest with whatever survives.
Maleficent & Diablo - Evil Incarnate can arrive for free: you may put 5 character cards from your discard on the bottom of your deck to Shift them onto a Maleficent or Diablo without paying ink, and during your turn, whenever they exert, you draw a card. A deck that trades characters in challenges fills its discard fast enough to use that. Sven - Leaping Reindeer and Fire the Cannons! are the kind of cheap interaction it plays along the way.
Its questing is modest, so a deck that ignores the challenges and races for lore with Evasive or Ward characters can get ahead.
Strengths
Weaknesses
A dual-ink card counts as both of its inks, so it can only go in a deck built from exactly those two. As of October 2026, the Core-legal dual-ink cards are the 16 from Attack of the Vine! (set 13), and one of them is in Amethyst and Steel.
These show the plan described above rather than a decklist or this month's best cards: one from Amethyst and one from Steel. Every card on this page is from set 9 or later and legal in Core Constructed as of October 2026.
Ravensburger has sold two starter decks in Amethyst and Steel as of October 2026. Each arrives as a legal two-ink deck, and each upgrade guide says what to cut and which cards to add.
To build your own, the Lorcana deck-building guide walks through the 60-card minimum, copies and inks, and TurnZero HQ's Deck Lab checks the list against Core Constructed or Infinity as you build. Decks other players have published are at Lorcana decks, searchable by deck name or by a card in the deck, such as Maleficent & Diablo.
If Amethyst and Steel is close to what you want but not quite it, these keep one of its inks and change the other.
Steel's damage removal and sturdy characters with Amethyst's Challenger, Rush and card draw: a board-control deck that wins challenges. Which version is strongest changes with each set, so treat any list as a starting point.
As of October 2026, the Core-legal one is Maleficent & Diablo - Evil Incarnate, from Attack of the Vine! (set 13). A dual-ink card counts as both of its inks, so it fits only a deck built from exactly Amethyst and Steel.
Yes, two as of October 2026: Rise of the Floodborn Amethyst & Steel Starter Deck (Infinity only) and Archazia's Island Amethyst & Steel Starter Deck (Infinity only). Each has an upgrade guide on TurnZero HQ.
Not in Core Constructed or Infinity, where a deck uses at most two inks. Format Coconut, Ravensburger's multiplayer format in open beta, allows up to three.
The Deck Lab checks your deck's inks, size and copies against Core Constructed or Infinity as you build, and you can publish it to share the link. Free on iPhone, Android and the web.
