Disney Lorcana Ink Pairs
Ruby and Sapphire is one of the 15 two-ink combinations a Lorcana deck can be built in. This page covers how it plays, what it does well and badly, and the cards that show its plan, as of October 2026.
Ruby & Sapphire is the red-blue pair. Sapphire's ramp and card selection with Ruby's removal and Rush: a deck that builds ink early and spends it on removing the opponent's best characters.
New to the inks? The ink colors guide covers each one, and all 15 pairs are listed side by side.
Ruby has direct removal and Sapphire has ramp and card selection, so this pair can pay for expensive answers early. Maleficent - Monstrous Dragon costs 9 and banishes a chosen character when she enters, which is a lot more playable when Sapphire has added cards to your inkwell.
Belle & Beast - Certain as the Sun are the big payoff: whenever they quest, you ready every card in your inkwell, so you can spend your ink twice in one turn, and for 6 ink they can ready your other characters (who can't quest for the rest of that turn). Develop Your Brain, one ink to look at the top two cards and keep one, smooths the early turns.
Ramp does nothing to the opponent's board on the turn it is played, so a fast start from the opponent can get ahead before the removal comes online.
Strengths
Weaknesses
A dual-ink card counts as both of its inks, so it can only go in a deck built from exactly those two. As of October 2026, the Core-legal dual-ink cards are the 16 from Attack of the Vine! (set 13), and one of them is in Ruby and Sapphire.
These show the plan described above rather than a decklist or this month's best cards: one from Ruby and one from Sapphire. Every card on this page is from set 9 or later and legal in Core Constructed as of October 2026.
Ravensburger has sold two starter decks in Ruby and Sapphire as of October 2026. Each arrives as a legal two-ink deck, and each upgrade guide says what to cut and which cards to add.
To build your own, the Lorcana deck-building guide walks through the 60-card minimum, copies and inks, and TurnZero HQ's Deck Lab checks the list against Core Constructed or Infinity as you build. Decks other players have published are at Lorcana decks, searchable by deck name or by a card in the deck, such as Belle & Beast.
If Ruby and Sapphire is close to what you want but not quite it, these keep one of its inks and change the other.
Sapphire's ramp and card selection with Ruby's removal and Rush: a deck that builds ink early and spends it on removing the opponent's best characters. Which version is strongest changes with each set, so treat any list as a starting point.
As of October 2026, the Core-legal one is Belle & Beast - Certain as the Sun, from Attack of the Vine! (set 13). A dual-ink card counts as both of its inks, so it fits only a deck built from exactly Ruby and Sapphire.
Yes, two as of October 2026: Into the Inklands Ruby & Sapphire Starter Deck (Infinity only) and Archazia's Island Ruby & Sapphire Starter Deck (Infinity only). Each has an upgrade guide on TurnZero HQ.
Not in Core Constructed or Infinity, where a deck uses at most two inks. Format Coconut, Ravensburger's multiplayer format in open beta, allows up to three.
The Deck Lab checks your deck's inks, size and copies against Core Constructed or Infinity as you build, and you can publish it to share the link. Free on iPhone, Android and the web.
