Disney Lorcana Ink Pairs

Ruby & Steel Lorcana Decks: How the Pair Plays

Ruby and Steel is one of the 15 two-ink combinations a Lorcana deck can be built in. This page covers how it plays, what it does well and badly, and the cards that show its plan, as of October 2026.

Ruby & Steel is the red-gray pair. The two most combat-focused inks: Ruby's Rush and removal with Steel's Resist, Bodyguard and damage actions, for a deck that wins the board.

How Ruby and Steel plays

Ruby and Steel both want to challenge. Ruby brings Rush, Reckless and removal; Steel brings Resist and Bodyguard characters that survive challenges, plus damage actions like Smash. The pair tends to clear the board, then quest with the characters left standing.

Hero characters link the two halves well. Hercules - Mighty Leader can't be dealt damage unless he is being challenged, and while he is exerted your other Hero characters get the same protection. Hercules - True Hero is a 3-cost Bodyguard Hero on the Steel side. Dash Parr & Violet Parr - Super Siblings, played with Combo Shift onto Dash Parr, Violet Parr or one of each, have Evasive and Resist +1 and draw a card for each card under them whenever they quest or challenge.

The pair spends cards to remove the opponent's characters and has little card draw, so a long game against a deck with more card advantage can leave it with nothing to play.

What it does well, and what it doesn't

Strengths

  • Very good at winning challenges.
  • Plenty of removal across both inks.
  • Resist and Bodyguard keep its key characters alive.

Weaknesses

  • Little card draw.
  • Less lore per turn than pairs built to quest.
  • Ward characters can't be chosen by its actions.

The Ruby and Steel dual-ink card

A dual-ink card counts as both of its inks, so it can only go in a deck built from exactly those two. As of October 2026, the Core-legal dual-ink cards are the 16 from Attack of the Vine! (set 13), and one of them is in Ruby and Steel.

Key cards from each ink

These show the plan described above rather than a decklist or this month's best cards: one from Ruby and one from Steel. Every card on this page is from set 9 or later and legal in Core Constructed as of October 2026.

Where to start

Ravensburger has sold one starter deck in Ruby and Steel as of October 2026. Each arrives as a legal two-ink deck, and each upgrade guide says what to cut and which cards to add.

To build your own, the Lorcana deck-building guide walks through the 60-card minimum, copies and inks, and TurnZero HQ's Deck Lab checks the list against Core Constructed or Infinity as you build. Decks other players have published are at Lorcana decks, searchable by deck name or by a card in the deck, such as Dash Parr & Violet Parr.

Pairs that share an ink

If Ruby and Steel is close to what you want but not quite it, these keep one of its inks and change the other.
