Disney Lorcana Ink Pairs
Sapphire and Steel is one of the 15 two-ink combinations a Lorcana deck can be built in. This page covers how it plays, what it does well and badly, and the cards that show its plan, as of October 2026.
Sapphire & Steel is the blue-gray pair. Sapphire's items and ramp with Steel's damage removal and sturdy characters: a controlling midrange deck that takes over late.
New to the inks? The ink colors guide covers each one, and all 15 pairs are listed side by side.
Sapphire and Steel was one of the three starter-deck pairs in The First Chapter. Sapphire brings items, ramp and card selection, and Steel brings damage actions and characters with Resist and Bodyguard. The pair tends to remove the opponent's early characters, build a larger inkwell, then take over with bigger characters.
Darkwing Duck & Launchpad - St. Canard's Finest have Ward and, during your turn, gain you 2 lore whenever they banish another character in a challenge, which turns Steel's fighting into lore. Darkwing's Chair Set can put the top card of your deck into your inkwell when you play it, and Smash deals 3 damage to a chosen character.
Its biggest threats arrive late and it has few Evasive characters, so a deck that quests with Evasive characters from the first turns can race it.
Strengths
Weaknesses
A dual-ink card counts as both of its inks, so it can only go in a deck built from exactly those two. As of October 2026, the Core-legal dual-ink cards are the 16 from Attack of the Vine! (set 13), and one of them is in Sapphire and Steel.
These show the plan described above rather than a decklist or this month's best cards: one from Sapphire and one from Steel. Every card on this page is from set 9 or later and legal in Core Constructed as of October 2026.
Ravensburger has sold three starter decks in Sapphire and Steel as of October 2026. Each arrives as a legal two-ink deck, and each upgrade guide says what to cut and which cards to add.
To build your own, the Lorcana deck-building guide walks through the 60-card minimum, copies and inks, and TurnZero HQ's Deck Lab checks the list against Core Constructed or Infinity as you build. Decks other players have published are at Lorcana decks, searchable by deck name or by a card in the deck, such as Darkwing Duck & Launchpad.
If Sapphire and Steel is close to what you want but not quite it, these keep one of its inks and change the other.
Sapphire's items and ramp with Steel's damage removal and sturdy characters: a controlling midrange deck that takes over late. Which version is strongest changes with each set, so treat any list as a starting point.
As of October 2026, the Core-legal one is Darkwing Duck & Launchpad - St. Canard's Finest, from Attack of the Vine! (set 13). A dual-ink card counts as both of its inks, so it fits only a deck built from exactly Sapphire and Steel.
Yes, three as of October 2026: The First Chapter Sapphire & Steel Starter Deck (Infinity only), Ursula's Return Sapphire & Steel Starter Deck (Infinity only) and Whispers in the Well Sapphire & Steel Starter Deck (Core legal). Each has an upgrade guide on TurnZero HQ.
Not in Core Constructed or Infinity, where a deck uses at most two inks. Format Coconut, Ravensburger's multiplayer format in open beta, allows up to three.
The Deck Lab checks your deck's inks, size and copies against Core Constructed or Infinity as you build, and you can publish it to share the link. Free on iPhone, Android and the web.
