Pokémon TCG
Which Pokémon's cards are worth the most on average? We took every English card of all 1,025 Pokémon, priced each one, and averaged them. Charizard wins. Some of the rest are a surprise.
Charizard's 111 English cards averaged $554 each on October 23, 2026, the highest of any Pokémon. Its first English card came in Base Set in 1999, and its most valuable is the Charizard ★ δ from Dragon Frontiers at $39,500.
That one card is 64% of everything Charizard's cards add up to. Set it aside and the other 110 still average $200, which would still put Charizard near the top. Its median card, the one in the middle, is $68. See every Charizard card →
Ranked by the average price of a Pokémon's priced cards. 754 of the 1,025 Pokémon have at least 10 priced cards and are ranked; the other 271 have too few cards for an average to mean much.
Prices are TCGplayer market prices for ungraded cards on October 23, 2026. The average counts every priced card; a few cards with no market price are counted in "Cards" but not in the average.
The most valuable card of each of the top eight. 5 of the top ten Pokémon have a Gold Star card from the EX era (2004 to 2007) as their priciest: those were the rarest pulls of their sets, a few per set, and they trade in small numbers, so their prices move more than a modern card's.

An average is pulled hard by one expensive card, and that is the story of Treecko (#10) and Torchic (#9). Each has one card worth thousands and a couple dozen others: their median cards are $1.17 and $1.11, and without the top card their averages fall to $8.30 and $9.76.
Rayquaza (#4) is the opposite. Without its most valuable card it still averages $247, nearly its full $265. Its median card, $111, is the highest in the top ten: a Rayquaza card is rarely cheap.
Pikachu has more English cards than any other Pokémon, 219, and ranks 36th at $92 a card. Its median card is $12.65: so many cheap Pikachus pull the average down, even though its most valuable, the Pikachu ★ from Holon Phantoms, is $6,998. See every Pikachu card →
Every English Pokémon card in TurnZero HQ's catalog counts for each Pokémon it pictures, by the National Pokédex numbers printed in the PokemonTCG dataset, so a TAG TEAM like Pikachu & Zekrom-GX counts for both. Trainer cards named after a Pokémon don't count. Each card is priced at its cheapest TCGplayer variant, a Normal copy over a Reverse Holofoil and Unlimited over 1st Edition, so the figures are conservative.
A Pokémon needs at least 10 priced cards to be ranked, so a new Pokémon with two cards and one Special Illustration Rare can't top the list on a sample of two. "First English card" is the earliest English set with a card of that Pokémon, promos included. A handful of thinly traded cards carry their last market price from earlier in October. You can browse any Pokémon's cards, with their current prices, in Pokémon cards by Pokémon.
Charizard. On October 23, 2026, its 111 English cards averaged $554 each at their cheapest TCGplayer market price, the highest of any Pokémon with at least 10 priced cards. Umbreon ($468) and Gengar ($270) came next.
Pikachu, with 219 English cards counting promos and TAG TEAMs. Its median card is $12.65, which is why Pikachu ranks 36th at $92 a card despite its expensive chase cards.
Each has one Gold Star card from the EX era worth thousands of dollars, and only a couple dozen cards in all, so that one card lifts the average. Without its Gold Star, Treecko's other cards average $8.30.
No. Every price is TCGplayer's market price for an ungraded card, at the card's cheapest variant (a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil, an Unlimited copy rather than 1st Edition). Graded copies and 1st Editions sell for more.
