BREAKthrough Set Guide

The set that introduced BREAK Evolution, a sideways gold card that builds on an evolved Pokémon. Mewtwo dominates its value, with two secret-rare Mewtwo-EX at the top.

Five BREAKthrough chase cards fanned out: M Mewtwo-EX, Mewtwo-EX, Mewtwo-EX in front, M Mewtwo-EX and Mewtwo-EX.

Overview

Release date November 4, 2015
Set code BKT
Cards 162 numbered, 164 in total
Series XY
Complete set as singles $1,373.09 on Oct 22
Regulation mark None, printed before regulation marks

BREAKthrough is the eighth XY expansion: 162 cards up to the printed total and two secret-rare Mewtwo-EX above it (163 and 164).

A Pokémon BREAK evolves from the Pokémon of the same name, is printed sideways, and keeps that Pokémon's attacks, Abilities, Weakness, Resistance and Retreat Cost. BREAKthrough prints six of them, from Chesnaught BREAK to Noivern BREAK. Mewtwo is the other story: Mewtwo-EX and M Mewtwo-EX each come as two different cards, and between regular, full-art and secret-rare printings the set has ten Mewtwo cards with a rule box.

Cards and rarities

BREAKthrough has 164 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "1/162", next to the set code BKT.

Rare BREAK6BREAK Evolutions, printed sideways in gold foil.
Rare Ultra10Full-art cards.
Rare Secret2Numbered above the printed total.

The printed total is 162, so the 2 cards from 163 to 164 are secret rares. The catalog also files one more card under this set with a letter after the number: Professor's Letter (146a). It is an alternate printing outside the numbered set, so it isn't counted here. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. What a complete set costs

One copy of every card in BREAKthrough, bought as singles, cost $1,373.09 on October 22, 2026. That is the 7th most expensive of the fifteen sets in the XY series.

Complete set $1,373.09
Main set, 1 to 162 $957.97
2 secret rares $415.12
Top three cards $563.13 (41%)

The three most valuable cards, two Mewtwo-EX cards and M Mewtwo-EX, come to $563.13, or 41% of the total. Without them the set costs $809.96. Of the 164 cards, 131 were under $2.00, together $60.74; the other 33 add up to $1,312.35.

Left out: one alternate printing the catalog files under this set with a letter after the number, Professor's Letter (146a). They aren't part of the numbered 164.

Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil where both exist, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.

Playing it

No BREAKthrough card carries a regulation mark, so none is Standard-legal as printed. Standard has allowed only the H, I and J marks since April 10, 2026. Every card in BREAKthrough is legal in Expanded, which takes every set from Black & White on.

A reprint with a legal mark makes older printings of the same card legal again, so check a card's name before you rule it out.
