Steam Siege Set Guide

The XY set with the most Pokémon BREAK, seven of them, and fewer Pokémon-EX than most. Volcanion-EX and Magearna-EX are new; a secret-rare Gardevoir-EX is its most valuable card.

Five Steam Siege chase cards fanned out: M Steelix-EX, M Gardevoir-EX, Gardevoir-EX in front, Volcanion-EX and Gardevoir-EX.

Overview

Release date August 3, 2016
Set code STS
Cards 114 numbered, 116 in total
Series XY
Complete set as singles $428.87 on Oct 22
Regulation mark None, printed before regulation marks

Steam Siege is the eleventh XY expansion: 114 cards up to the printed total and two secret rares above it, Volcanion-EX and Gardevoir-EX (115 and 116).

It leans on Pokémon BREAK, with seven, more than any other XY set, and has six Pokémon-EX. Volcanion-EX's Steam Up powers up Basic Fire Pokémon, and Magearna-EX's Mystic Heart protects Pokémon with Metal Energy from attack effects. Prices are among the lowest of the series.

Cards and rarities

Steam Siege has 116 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "1/114", next to the set code STS.

The printed total is 114, so the 2 cards from 115 to 116 are secret rares. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. How set completion works →

What a complete set costs

One copy of every card in Steam Siege, bought as singles, cost $428.87 on October 22, 2026. That is the 14th most expensive of the fifteen sets in the XY series.

Complete set $428.87
Main set, 1 to 114 $285.34
2 secret rares $143.53
Top three cards $201.22 (47%)

The three most valuable cards, Gardevoir-EX, M Gardevoir-EX and Volcanion-EX, come to $201.22, or 47% of the total. Without them the set costs $227.65. Of the 116 cards, 93 were under $2.00, together $32.15; the other 23 add up to $396.72.

Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil where both exist, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.

Playing it

No Steam Siege card carries a regulation mark, so none is Standard-legal as printed. Standard has allowed only the H, I and J marks since April 10, 2026. Every card in Steam Siege is legal in Expanded, which takes every set from Black & White on.

A reprint with a legal mark makes older printings of the same card legal again, so check a card's name before you rule it out.
