Primal Clash is the fifth XY expansion: 160 cards up to the printed total and four secret-rare Trainers above it, Dive Ball, Enhanced Hammer, Switch and Weakness Policy (161 to 164). Its Rare Ultra run, 147 to 160, has full arts of its Pokémon-EX and of its four Supporters.

It introduced Primal Reversion, which works like Mega Evolution: Primal Kyogre-EX evolves from Kyogre-EX, and becoming one ends your turn. Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick, one of the set's Supporters, is on the Expanded banned list.

Cards and rarities

Primal Clash has 164 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "1/160", next to the set code PRC.

The printed total is 160, so the 4 cards from 161 to 164 are secret rares. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. How set completion works →

What a complete set costs

One copy of every card in Primal Clash, bought as singles, cost $1,989.39 on October 22, 2026. That is the fourth most expensive of the fifteen sets in the XY series.

Complete set $1,989.39
Main set, 1 to 160 $1,908.28
4 secret rares $81.11
Top three cards $769.30 (39%)

The three most valuable cards, Primal Kyogre-EX, Primal Groudon-EX and Kyogre-EX, come to $769.30, or 39% of the total. Without them the set costs $1,220.09. Of the 164 cards, 116 were under $2.00, together $52.45; the other 48 add up to $1,936.94.

Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil where both exist, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.

Playing it

No Primal Clash card carries a regulation mark, so none is Standard-legal as printed. Standard has allowed only the H, I and J marks since April 10, 2026. Primal Clash is legal in Expanded, which takes every set from Black & White on, except for Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick (133/160 and 158/160), on the Expanded banned list.

A reprint with a legal mark makes older printings of the same card legal again, so check a card's name before you rule it out.
