Calm and Chaos in Riftbound

Calm and Chaos is a tricky pair built on moving units and winning combats with tricks. As of October 2026 it has four Legends, including Irelia, the most played Legend on the first day of the Los Angeles Regional Qualifier in September 2026.

Calm and Chaos is Calm (green) with Chaos (purple). Combat tricks and movement: Yasuo, Irelia, Vex and Riven. As of October 2026 it has 4 Legends: Yasuo, Unforgiven, Irelia, Blade Dancer, Vex, Gloomist and Riven, The Exile.

How Calm and Chaos plays

Chaos moves units where the opponent doesn't expect them and Calm wins the fights once they get there. Calm's combat tricks and Shield keep units alive, and Chaos's movement and Hidden cards let the deck pick its fights. It rarely trades evenly; it tries to make every combat one-sided.

The Legends lean on units. Yasuo, Unforgiven moves a friendly unit to or from your base. Irelia, Blade Dancer can ready a friendly unit whenever you choose it. Vex, Gloomist draws a card when you or an ally hold. Radiance's Riven, The Exile makes units you play to battlefields you control enter ready. Irelia was the most played Legend on the first day of the Los Angeles Regional Qualifier in late September 2026.

What it does well, and what it doesn't

Strengths

  • Moves units to the fights it wants, and has the tricks to win them.
  • Combat tricks from both domains, many of them Reactions.
  • Legends that turn each trick into extra value: Irelia readies, Vex draws.

Weaknesses

  • Few ways to remove a threat for good: Chaos lists it as a weakness, and Calm's answers run through combat.
  • Calm struggles to interact without units, and Chaos's bonuses rarely last past the turn.
  • Needs units on the board to do anything, so sweeping removal hurts it.

These start from what Riot's Deckbuilding Primer says each domain is good and bad at, which the guide to Riftbound's domains covers in full. A pair's Legend can shift them: a Legend that draws cards helps a pair whose domains don't.

The Calm and ChaosLegends

As of October 2026, 4 Legends have exactly these two domains. Each one sets the same card pool, but their abilities point the deck at different plans.

Every Riftbound Legend lists all of them by domain pair, with each one's ability and price.

Calm and Chaos Signature cards

Every two-domain Calm and Chaos card printed so far is a Signature card. Each carries one champion's tag, so it only goes in a deck whose Legend has that tag, and a deck can hold at most 3 Signature cards in total. Riftbound Signature cards explains the rule.

Cards from each domain

Most of a Calm and Chaos deck is single-domain cards, from either half. These show what each half brings: the first two are Calm, the last two Chaos.

Building a Calm and Chaos deck

Start with the Legend, since it decides the plan, then fill the main deck from both domains and split your 12 runes between Calm and Chaos. A reasonable starting point is to count the Calm and Chaos symbols in your costs and give more runes to the domain with more of them.

The guide to building a Riftbound deck covers the full rules. TurnZero HQ's Deck Lab marks a deck Not legal if a card or rune is outside your Legend's domains, and the decks players have published are at Riftbound decks, searchable by deck name or by a card in the deck.
