Purple/Black in the One Piece TCG

Purple/Black spends DON!! and lowers costs. Its main Leader, the ST-26 Luffy, refunds DON!! when you return two or more at once, which makes Purple's DON!! −X costs much cheaper.

Purple/Black is a deck led by a Purple/Black Leader, so it can play any Purple card and any Black card. Purple's DON!! −X paid back by Luffy, with Black's cost-based removal.

As of October 2026, Bandai has printed three Purple/Black Leaders. Two are legal in Standard, one has rotated out with block 1.

How Purple/Black Plays

Monkey.D.Luffy (OP09-061) does two things. With a DON!! given, all of your Characters gain +1 cost, which protects them from cost-based removal. And once per turn on your turn, when 2 or more DON!! return to your DON!! deck, he adds one active and one rested DON!! back. A DON!! −2 effect then leaves your DON!! count where it was, though one of the two comes back rested. ST-26's Nico Robin is the example: DON!! −2 to add an active DON!!, so with the Leader you come out a DON!! ahead.

King (OP08-057) pays DON!! −2 once per turn for a choice: draw a card if you hold 5 or fewer, or give an opposing Character −2 cost. The −2 cost brings it into range of Black's K.O.-by-cost effects.

What each color does on its own, counted from the card text, is in Purple and Black on the colors page.

What It Does Well, and What It Doesn't

Strengths

  • Luffy makes DON!! −X effects close to free once per turn.
  • Black's cost cuts and K.O.s, plus Purple's DON!!-cost removal like Gum-Gum Lightning.
  • +1 cost on your Characters shields them from cost-based removal.

Weaknesses

  • DON!! counting every turn: ST-26 is rated 4 out of 5 for difficulty in our starter deck guide.
  • Only two Leaders were legal in Standard as of October 2026.
  • King's draw needs a small hand, so it does little when you are ahead on cards.

Purple/Black Leaders

Your Leader is the only two-color card in a Purple/Black deck: every two-color card Bandai has printed is a Leader. These are the ones legal in Standard as of October 2026, with what each one asks of the deck.

Rotated out of Standard with block 1 on April 1, 2026, and still playable in casual games: Zephyr (OP02-072).

How Leaders work, and the ones that change deckbuilding rules, is in One Piece Leader cards.

Cards Worth Knowing

The rest of the deck is single-color cards. These show what the pair's Leaders are built to use; they are examples from Standard-legal sets, not a list of the best cards.

Where to Start

The fastest start is a starter deck with a Purple/Black Leader: ST-26 PURPLE/BLACK Monkey.D.Luffy (Standard legal, difficulty 4 out of 5). Each guide covers the deck as sold and the upgrades worth buying first.

To build one, pick the Leader first and fill the 50 cards in its colors; the steps are in how to build a One Piece deck. TurnZero HQ's One Piece Deck Lab flags any card that doesn't share a color with your Leader, and decks players have published are at One Piece decks, searchable by deck name or by a card in the deck.
