Purple in the One Piece TCG

A Purple deck manages DON!!. Purple is the only color with single-color cards that add DON!! from the DON!! deck or return it with DON!! −X costs, so a Purple deck reaches big plays early and then chooses when to give DON!! back for an effect.

Purple is a deck led by a one-color Purple Leader, so every card in it is Purple. Extra DON!! early and DON!! −X effects that spend it, the color where DON!! counts decide games.

As of November 2026, Bandai has printed 12 one-color Purple Leaders. Seven are legal in Standard, five rotated out with block 1. Every one has 5 Life, one more than most two-color Leaders.

How Purple Plays

Purple ramps and then spends. Adding DON!! lets a Purple deck play a 7- or 8-cost Character a turn or two before an opponent can, and DON!! −X effects return DON!! to the DON!! deck to pay for removal, draw or power. The skill is counting: knowing how much DON!! you need next turn before you return any this turn.

Monkey.D.Luffy (OP05-060) takes a Life card into hand to add an active DON!! when you have 0 or 3 or more on the field, which trades Life for tempo. Enel (OP15-058) changes the rules: his DON!! deck has 6 cards, and from your second turn he adds 5 at once (1 active, 4 rested) and gives 4 rested DON!! to a Character. Sengoku (OP16-060) returns 8 active DON!! to play up to 3 Admirals with different names from hand.

The others spend DON!! −1 every turn. Charlotte Katakuri (OP11-062) looks at the top of your opponent's deck for +1000 power, Kaido (OP17-058) gives an opposing Character −2000, and Donquixote Doflamingo (OP14-060) moves an attack onto your Leader or a Donquixote Pirates Character. Foxy (OP07-059) spends DON!! −3 to keep a rested Leader and Character from readying, with 3 Foxy Pirates Characters out.

What Purple does across all of its cards, counted from the card text, is in the Purple section of the colors lesson.

What It Does Well, and What It Doesn't

Strengths

  • Reaches high-cost Characters before any other color can.
  • DON!! −X effects turn surplus DON!! into removal, draw or power on either player's turn.
  • Katakuri, Kaido and Doflamingo spend DON!! −1 on your opponent's turn, so DON!! left on the field still does work on defense.

Weaknesses

  • Returning DON!! for an effect means less DON!! to play cards next turn, and a miscount loses a turn.
  • The hardest color to learn: its two Standard-legal one-color starter decks are rated 3 and 4 out of 5 for difficulty in our guide.
  • Luffy's ramp costs Life, and Enel's 6-card DON!! deck caps how far the deck can go.

Purple Leaders

A one-color Leader gives up the second color's cards, and most get an extra Life for it: a typical one-color Leader has 5 Life where a typical two-color Leader has 4. Cards that check for a multicolored Leader do nothing extra here. These are the Purple Leaders legal in Standard as of November 2026, with what each one asks of the deck.

Rotated out of Standard with block 1 on April 1, 2026, and still playable in casual games: Iceburg (OP03-058), Magellan (OP02-071), King (OP01-091), Kaido (ST04-001), Shanks (ST05-001).

How Leaders work, and the ones that change deckbuilding rules, is in One Piece Leader cards. Every printing of every Leader, by character, is in One Piece Leaders.

Cards Worth Knowing

These show what Purple cards do; they are examples from Standard-legal sets, not a list of the best cards.

Where to Start

The fastest start is a one-color Purple starter deck: ST-18 Purple Monkey.D.Luffy (Standard legal, difficulty 3 out of 5); ST-34 PURPLE Charlotte Katakuri (Standard legal, difficulty 4 out of 5). Each guide covers the deck as sold and the upgrades worth buying first.

Older Purple boxes whose Leader has rotated out of Standard: ST-04 Animal Kingdom Pirates, ST-05 ONE PIECE FILM edition. They still work for casual games and as a source of cards.

To build one, pick the Leader first and fill the 50 cards in Purple; the steps are in how to build a One Piece deck. TurnZero HQ's One Piece Deck Lab flags any card that doesn't share a color with your Leader, and decks players have published are at One Piece decks, searchable by deck name or by a card in the deck.

Purple in Two-Color Decks

A two-color Leader adds a second color's cards to Purple's. All five Purple pairs have at least one Leader as of October 2026.
