One Piece Card Game · Colors
A Red deck attacks. Red has the most cards that add power and the most [Rush] of any color, and most Red Leaders either hand DON!! to a Character or give one [Rush], so the deck's plan is to make each attack too strong to stop.
Red is a deck led by a one-color Red Leader, so every card in it is Red. Power, [Rush] and DON!! handed to attackers, with Leaders that make one big Character hit harder.
As of November 2026, Bandai has printed 13 one-color Red Leaders. Eight are legal in Standard, five rotated out with block 1. Of those, 12 have 5 Life, one more than most two-color Leaders; Edward.Newgate (OP02-001) has 6.
Red removes by power. It cuts an opposing Character's power and K.O.s Characters at or below a power number, so a Red turn often lowers a Blocker first and then attacks past it. What Red rarely does is rest or bounce, which is why it pairs so often with Green and Blue.
Most Red Leaders put DON!! on one attacker. Monkey.D.Luffy (ST21-001, the Gear 5 Leader from ST-21 and ST-31) gives 2 rested DON!! to a Character, and Monkey.D.Dragon (OP07-001) moves 2 DON!! that are already given. Sanji (PRB01-001) and Portgas.D.Ace (OP16-001) give [Rush] instead, Sanji to a Character without an [On Play] effect and Ace to a Luffy or a Whitebeard Pirates Character with 8000 power or more.
The rest defend or change the rules. Shanks (OP09-001) gives an opposing Leader or Character −1000 power once per turn when your opponent attacks, and Edward.Newgate (OP17-001) trashes a card on defense for +4000 power. Silvers Rayleigh (OP12-001) bans every card that costs 5 or more from your deck, so his deck is all small Characters and Events.
What Red does across all of its cards, counted from the card text, is in the Red section of the colors lesson.
Strengths
Weaknesses
A one-color Leader gives up the second color's cards, and most get an extra Life for it: a typical one-color Leader has 5 Life where a typical two-color Leader has 4. Cards that check for a multicolored Leader do nothing extra here. These are the Red Leaders legal in Standard as of November 2026, with what each one asks of the deck.

How Leaders work, and the ones that change deckbuilding rules, is in One Piece Leader cards. Every printing of every Leader, by character, is in One Piece Leaders.
These show what Red cards do; they are examples from Standard-legal sets, not a list of the best cards.
The fastest start is a one-color Red starter deck: ST-21 GEAR5 (Standard legal, difficulty 2 out of 5); ST-23 RED Shanks (Standard legal, difficulty 2 out of 5); ST-31 RED Monkey.D.Luffy (Standard legal, difficulty 2 out of 5). Each guide covers the deck as sold and the upgrades worth buying first.
Older Red boxes whose Leader has rotated out of Standard: ST-01 Straw Hat Crew, ST-15 Red Edward.Newgate. They still work for casual games and as a source of cards.
To build one, pick the Leader first and fill the 50 cards in Red; the steps are in how to build a One Piece deck. TurnZero HQ's One Piece Deck Lab flags any card that doesn't share a color with your Leader, and decks players have published are at One Piece decks, searchable by deck name or by a card in the deck.
A two-color Leader adds a second color's cards to Red's. All five Red pairs have at least one Leader as of October 2026.
Yes. Red's plan is to attack with more power than your opponent can counter, so the decisions are mostly about where to put your DON!!. Every Standard-legal one-color Red starter deck (ST-21, ST-23 and ST-31) is rated 2 out of 5 for difficulty in our starter deck guide, the lowest of any color.

Portgas.D.Ace (OP03-001), Edward.Newgate (OP02-001), Roronoa Zoro (OP01-001), Uta (P-011) and Monkey.D.Luffy (ST01-001) rotated out with block 1 on April 1, 2026.
