Quick verdict

Power 2/5 · Casual
Difficulty 1/5 · Very easy

A Basic ex that hits for 220 early; it then has to sit out a turn, and the deck around it is thin.

What's in the box

These are the cards that decide how the deck plays. Each one links to its card page, with its current price.

How it plays

Victini ex is a Basic, so it can attack on your second turn. Victory Flame does 220 for three Energy, but Victini can't attack the turn after. Strafe does 30 and lets you switch Victini with a Benched Pokémon, which is how you get it out of the way on its off turn.

Skeledirge and Magmortar are the other attackers, and three Switch help rotate them.

Is it Standard legal?

No. Its Pokémon ex and nearly every other card carry the G mark and rotated on April 10, 2026. It still plays against other precons and in Expanded, which is where these decks were always strongest anyway.

Every upgrade card below carries an H, I or J regulation mark, the marks legal in Standard since the April 10, 2026 rotation, checked against our Pokémon card catalog on October 10, 2026. Basic Energy is always legal. See which cards are legal in each format for how regulation marks and reprints decide it.

Upgrade path 1: Swap in real Trainer cards

The Victini ex Battle Deck was built to teach, so its Trainers are the gentle ones: Nemona, Youngster, Great Ball and Potion. Replacing them is the cheapest upgrade in the Pokémon TCG, since every card below is a common or uncommon, and it makes the deck faster against other precons whatever format you play. Lillie's Determination shuffles your hand away and draws 6 (8 before you take a Prize), Ultra Ball finds any Pokémon, Night Stretcher gets back a Knocked Out Pokémon or a Basic Energy, and Boss's Orders lets you choose which Pokémon you Knock Out.

For this deck, a second attacker that can take over on Victini's off turn matters most. Crispin finds two Basic Energy and attaches one, which gets the next attacker ready.

What comes out: 3 Youngster, 2 Rika, 2 Energy Sticker and 2 Paldean Tauros.

Upgrade path 2: Move to Mega Charizard for Standard

For Standard Fire, Mega Charizard Y ex's Explosion Y does 280 to any one of your opponent's Pokémon for discarding 3 Energy, and Mega Charizard X ex's Inferno X does 90 for each Fire Energy you discard from your Pokémon. Both are Stage 2 Mega Evolutions, so they need Rare Candy and Dawn.
