Pokémon TCG · 2014 Set Guide
The first XY expansion. It brought Mega Evolution and Fairy-type Pokémon into the main series, and its six full-art Pokémon-EX, led by Blastoise-EX, are its most valuable cards.
XY started the series of the same name in February 2014. Its 146 cards are all numbered within the printed total, so it has no secret rares; the top of the set is six full-art Pokémon-EX, numbered 141 to 146.
It introduced Mega Evolution. M Venusaur-EX and M Blastoise-EX evolve from Venusaur-EX and Blastoise-EX, and becoming one ends your turn. The set also prints twelve Fairy-type Pokémon, with Fairy Garden and Aromatisse to support them.
XY has 146 cards. Every card shows its number over the printed total along the bottom, as in "1/146", next to the set code XY.
Every card is numbered within the printed total of 146, so XY has no secret rares. Set completion in TurnZero HQ counts a set against its printed total and keeps the secret rares apart, so finishing the main set and chasing the cards above it read as two separate goals. How set completion works →
Pokémon-EX give up two Prize cards when Knocked Out. A Mega Evolution Pokémon-EX evolves from its Pokémon-EX, and evolving into one ends your turn:
M Blastoise-EX
XY #30
220 HP Mega Evolution. Hydro Bombard does 120, and 30 to two of your opponent's Benched Pokémon.
Yveltal-EX
XY #79
170 HP. Evil Ball does 20 plus 20 for each Energy attached to both Active Pokémon; Y Cyclone does 90 and moves an Energy to your Bench.
Xerneas-EX
XY #97
170 HP. X Blast does 140 but can't be used on your next turn; Break Through does 60, and 30 to a Benched Pokémon.
Two Trainers reprinted across the series:

The six full-art Pokémon-EX fill the top, Blastoise-EX first. The regular M Blastoise-EX is the best of the rest.

These are each card's headline TCGplayer market price on October 22, 2026. Prices can move a long way, most of all in a set's first months, so treat them as a snapshot. Each card's page shows today's price for every variant and its 90-day chart. How Pokémon card prices work →
One copy of every card in XY, bought as singles, cost $841.52 on October 22, 2026. That is the 12th most expensive of the fifteen sets in the XY series.
The three most valuable cards, Blastoise-EX, Venusaur-EX and Xerneas-EX, come to $418.69, or 50% of the total. Without them the set costs $422.83. Of the 146 cards, 122 were under $2.00, together $61.49; the other 24 add up to $780.03.
Each card is counted at its cheapest priced variant, a Normal copy rather than a Reverse Holofoil where both exist, at its TCGplayer market price. This is what it costs to buy the set as singles. It is not what opening packs returns, and not what a complete set would sell for, which after fees and the many cards worth cents would be noticeably less.
No XY card carries a regulation mark, so none is Standard-legal as printed, apart from its basic Energy cards, which Standard allows from any set. Standard has allowed only the H, I and J marks since April 10, 2026. XY is legal in Expanded, which takes every set from Black & White on, except for Red Card (124/146), on the Expanded banned list.
A reprint with a legal mark makes older printings of the same card legal again, so check a card's name before you rule it out.
February 5, 2014. Its set code is XY.
146, all numbered within the printed total, so the set has no secret rares.
A Mega Evolution Pokémon-EX, such as M Blastoise-EX, evolves from the Pokémon-EX of the same name. Under the Mega Evolution rule, your turn ends when one of your Pokémon becomes a Mega Evolution Pokémon. XY was the first set to print them.
The Rare Ultra Blastoise-EX (142/146), at $174.86 on October 22, 2026, ahead of the Rare Ultra Venusaur-EX (141/146) at $124.99. Prices move daily, so check each card's page for the current figure.
