Red/Black in the One Piece TCG

Red/Black pairs Red's power with Black's two specialties: changing costs and using the trash. Its newest Leader, Sabo (OP13-004, sold in ST-35), rewards a cost-8 Character, and Black's Revolutionary Army cards raise their own cost to get there.

Red/Black is a deck led by a Red/Black Leader, so it can play any Red card and any Black card. Red's power with Black's cost tricks and trash recursion, best known through Sabo.

As of October 2026, Bandai has printed four Red/Black Leaders. Three are legal in Standard, one has rotated out with block 1.

How Red/Black Plays

Black measures cost where Red measures power, so a Red/Black deck has two ways to remove a Character: cut its power for a Red K.O., or lower its cost for a Black one. Black also plays cards from the trash, so Characters lost in battle can come back.

Sabo (OP13-004), the ST-35 Leader, gives your Leader and every Character +1000 power while you have a Character with a cost of 8 or more, and has 5 Life with −1000 power while you have 4 or more. Black's Revolutionary Army cards raise their own cost to get there: Morley counts as cost 8 with a Revolutionary Army Leader. Koby (OP11-001) lets SWORD Characters attack Characters the turn they are played, and the older Sabo (OP05-001) keeps a 5000-power Character from being K.O.'d once per turn.

What each color does on its own, counted from the card text, is in Red and Black on the colors page.

What It Does Well, and What It Doesn't

Strengths

  • Two removal angles: Red K.O.s by power, Black K.O.s by cost.
  • Resilient boards. OP05 Sabo and Koby both protect Characters, and Black can replay from the trash.
  • A current starter deck: ST-35 (July 2026) is entirely legal in Standard.

Weaknesses

  • OP13 Sabo starts the game 1000 power down, until his Life drops below 4.
  • Sabo's +1000 needs a DON!! on him and a cost-8 Character on the field.
  • Only three Leaders were legal in Standard as of October 2026, two of them Sabo.

Red/Black Leaders

Your Leader is the only two-color card in a Red/Black deck: every two-color card Bandai has printed is a Leader. These are the ones legal in Standard as of October 2026, with what each one asks of the deck.

Rotated out of Standard with block 1 on April 1, 2026, and still playable in casual games: Monkey.D.Garp (OP02-002).

How Leaders work, and the ones that change deckbuilding rules, is in One Piece Leader cards.

Cards Worth Knowing

The rest of the deck is single-color cards. These show what the pair's Leaders are built to use; they are examples from Standard-legal sets, not a list of the best cards.

Where to Start

The fastest start is a starter deck with a Red/Black Leader: ST-35 RED/BLACK Sabo (Standard legal, difficulty 3 out of 5). Each guide covers the deck as sold and the upgrades worth buying first.

To build one, pick the Leader first and fill the 50 cards in its colors; the steps are in how to build a One Piece deck. TurnZero HQ's One Piece Deck Lab flags any card that doesn't share a color with your Leader, and decks players have published are at One Piece decks, searchable by deck name or by a card in the deck.
