What's in the box

These are the cards that decide how the deck plays. Each one links to its card page, with its current price.

How it plays

Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR's Star Portal, its once-a-game VSTAR Power, attaches up to 3 Water Energy from your discard pile to your Water Pokémon, which can power two attackers in one turn. Subspace Swell does 60 plus 20 for each Benched Pokémon on both sides of the table, up to 260 with full Benches.

Origin Forme Palkia V's Rule the Region searches for a Stadium, and Bibarel draws until you have 5 cards. The box includes foil versions of the Palkia cards and Radiant Greninja, plus an acrylic VSTAR marker.

Is it Standard legal?

No. Every card is from the Sword & Shield era (regulation marks E and F), which left Standard before the Scarlet & Violet sets did. The deck plays in Expanded.

Every upgrade card below carries an H, I or J regulation mark, the marks legal in Standard since the April 10, 2026 rotation, checked against our Pokémon card catalog on October 10, 2026. Basic Energy is always legal. See which cards are legal in each format for how regulation marks and reprints decide it.

Upgrade path 1: Keep it for Expanded

The box is an Expanded deck now, and the useful upgrades are cards that keep Palkia's Energy flowing. Night Stretcher returns a Basic Energy or a Knocked Out Palkia V, and Prime Catcher is an ACE SPEC that is legal in Expanded and was not printed when this box was.

What comes out: One Choice Belt and one Melony.

Upgrade path 2: Move to a Standard Water deck

For Standard, the Water deck with the most in common is the Mega Greninja ex League Battle Deck, which also wins by placing damage where it matters. Its own guide covers it. If you would rather build from singles, Mega Starmie ex's Nebula Beam does 210 that ignores Weakness and Resistance, and Surfing Beach replaces the switching this deck did with Palkia's Bench.
