What's in the box

These are the cards that decide how the deck plays. Each one links to its card page, with its current price.

How it plays

Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex has Power Saver: it can't attack unless you have 4 or more Team Rocket's Pokémon in play. Once it can, Erasure Ball does 160 and lets you discard up to 2 Energy from your Benched Pokémon for 60 more each, up to 280. The rest of the deck exists to meet that condition and to put Energy on the Bench for Mewtwo to spend.

Team Rocket's Proton finds up to 3 Basic Team Rocket's Pokémon, and you can play it on your first turn even going first. Team Rocket's Spidops attaches a Basic Energy from your discard pile to itself each turn, which refills the Bench Energy Erasure Ball discards. Team Rocket's Crobat ex puts 2 damage counters on two of your opponent's Pokémon when you evolve into it. Team Rocket's Ariana draws to 5 cards, or to 8 if every Pokémon you have in play is a Team Rocket's Pokémon, which this deck usually manages.

Team Rocket's Energy provides 2 Energy in any combination of Psychic and Darkness, but only on a Team Rocket's Pokémon.

Is it Standard legal?

Every card in this deck is Standard legal. The Ultra Ball, Switch and Energy Switch in the box are older G prints, but each has been reprinted with the I mark and the same text, so the box copies stay legal.

Every upgrade card below carries an H, I or J regulation mark, the marks legal in Standard since the April 10, 2026 rotation, checked against our Pokémon card catalog on October 10, 2026. Basic Energy is always legal. See which cards are legal in each format for how regulation marks and reprints decide it.

Upgrade path 1: Meet Power Saver sooner

The deck's slow games are the ones where Mewtwo sits on the Bench waiting for a fourth Rocket Pokémon. More Benching speed fixes most of them. Precious Trolley, an ACE SPEC, puts any number of Basic Pokémon from your deck onto your Bench at once; replace Scramble Switch with it if your losses are slow starts rather than stuck Active Pokémon.

A fourth Team Rocket's Transceiver finds Proton or Ariana, and a second Team Rocket's Petrel finds any Trainer.

What comes out: Scramble Switch (one ACE SPEC per deck), Team Rocket's Articuno and one Switch.

Upgrade path 2: Finish more Knock Outs

Crobat ex's 4 damage counters and Erasure Ball's 280 leave a lot of Pokémon one hit short. Maximum Belt adds 50 against an Active Pokémon ex, which turns a 280 Erasure Ball into 330, and Boss's Orders chooses the target. Note that Boss's Orders does not have "Team Rocket" in its name, so Ariana's draw-to-8 still works but Transceiver will not find it.

Night Stretcher gets back a Knocked Out Crobat ex to evolve again, which places another 4 damage counters.

What comes out: Two Team Rocket's Archer and one Energy Switch.
