What's in the box

These are the cards that decide how the deck plays. Each one links to its card page, with its current price.

How it plays

Mega Gengar ex is a Stage 2, so the deck uses Rare Candy to skip Haunter. Void Gale does 230 for two Darkness Energy and moves an Energy from Gengar to a Benched Pokémon, so the next attacker is already charging. Its Shadowy Concealment Ability means that when one of your Darkness Pokémon is Knocked Out by an attack from a Pokémon ex, your opponent takes one fewer Prize card. That makes Gengar itself cost them 2 Prizes instead of 3.

Toxtricity's Sinister Surge attaches a Basic Darkness Energy from your deck to a Benched Darkness Pokémon each turn, putting 2 damage counters on it. Punk Helmet places 4 damage counters on any Pokémon that damages your Active Darkness Pokémon, and Risky Ruins puts 2 damage counters on every Basic non-Darkness Pokémon your opponent benches, which your all-Darkness deck ignores.

Is it Standard legal?

Mostly. The Pokémon and nearly every Trainer carry the H or I mark, but the 2 Arven, 1 Iono and 3 Nest Ball are G prints with no Standard reprint, so they rotated on April 10, 2026. Replace those six cards and the deck is Standard legal.

Every upgrade card below carries an H, I or J regulation mark, the marks legal in Standard since the April 10, 2026 rotation, checked against our Pokémon card catalog on October 10, 2026. Basic Energy is always legal. See which cards are legal in each format for how regulation marks and reprints decide it.

Upgrade path 1: Replace the rotated six

Swap the two Arven and the Iono for Dawn and Lillie's Determination. Dawn finds Gastly, Haunter and Mega Gengar ex in one card, and Lillie's Determination draws 6, or 8 before you have taken a Prize. Replace the three Nest Ball with Buddy-Buddy Poffin (Gastly fits its 70 HP limit) and an extra Ultra Ball.

What comes out: 2 Arven, 1 Iono, 3 Nest Ball.

Upgrade path 2: Turn the damage counters into Knock Outs

Toxtricity's counters land on your own Pokémon, and Munkidori turns that into an advantage: while it has a Darkness Energy attached, Adrena-Brain moves up to 3 damage counters from one of your Pokémon to one of your opponent's. Each turn that heals Toxtricity's cost and puts 30 damage where you want it.

Mega Absol ex finishes the job. Its Terminal Period Knocks Out the opponent's Active Pokémon if it has exactly 6 damage counters on it, for two Energy and no damage roll at all. Pecharunt ex's Subjugating Chains switches a Benched Darkness Pokémon into the Active Spot (Poisoning it), which brings Absol or Gengar up without a Switch.

What comes out: Both Seviper, both Sableye and Eternatus.
