The Abyss

World Enchantment MV 4

Tracked across real Commander games played through TurnZero HQ.

What it does

At the beginning of each player's upkeep, destroy target nonartifact creature that player controls of their choice. It can't be regenerated.

Rulings

2 official rulings, in the order Wizards published them.

  • 2004-10-04

The controller of The Abyss controls the ability, but the current player chooses what gets destroyed.

  • 2008-10-01

This has the supertype world. When a world permanent enters, any world permanents that were already on the battlefield are put into their owners' graveyards. This is a state-based action called the "world rule." The new world permanent stays on the battlefield. If two world permanents enter at the same time, they're both put into their owners' graveyards.

Rulings are Wizards of the Coast's own, mirrored from Scryfall and refreshed nightly.

Every version of The Abyss

1 printing, newest first. Prices are the market figures Scryfall publishes, refreshed nightly. A printing with no figure shows a dash rather than a zero, because Scryfall publishes none for some of them.

Prices from Scryfall, which tracks the TCGplayer and Cardmarket markets. They move daily and are a guide rather than a quote. Search TCGplayer for The Abyss. It runs a name search across every version, which covers the printings TCGplayer publishes no direct link to.

Aggregated from Commander games tracked in TurnZero HQ. Every figure counts decks and games only. No individual deck list, player or playgroup is identified. Win rates are withheld below 5 completed games, where the sample is too small to mean anything.
